GURGAON: To ensure that all unauthorized colonies in the city get basic amenities under the Haryana Management of Civic Amenities and Infrastructure Deficient Municipal Areas (Special Provisions) Act, 2013, the MCG is planning to send a list of nine such colonies to Chandigarh for verification. The civic body is also conducting revised estimates for 18 more colonies.

Recently, 44 such colonies in the city had received sanctions from the state government.

According to officials, the plan is to bring all illegal colonies under the ambit of the new Act. “This special provisions Act was passed last October under which, despite being unauthorized colonies, the municipal body can still go ahead and provide basic amenities like water and sewerage,” said an official. The official said this can be done provided they meet the laid down criteria, which is – as on June 30, 2009, the minimum built-up area of the colony should be 50% and the colony should not be a part of any restricted area.

There are around 85 such illegal colonies that currently come under the MCG.

“Our effort is to ensure we are able to provide basic services to the residents of all these colonies as per the said Act. However, out of these 85 colonies, there are around six of them that come under the 900m IAF ammunition depot zone and therefore, we cannot provide them the services under this Act, as there is a case going on in the Supreme Court as well as in the Punjab and Haryana high court regarding the legality if these six colonies,” the official added.

The MCG officials also said the residents of the 44 colonies, which have already received sanctions from the state, can approach them and deposit the nominal development charges, after which they can avail the services provided by the municipal corporation.
