Faridabad Metro to be extended to Greater Faridabad

Work on Badarpur-Faridabad Metro link begins
New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday began construction work for a nearly 14-km link to connect the satellite town Faridabad in Haryana with the national capital.

The foundation laying for the pillars of the 13.875 km stretch began on Wednesday at Faridabad in the presence of Delhi Metro managing director Mangu Singh and officials of the Haryana government.

"Over 500 pillars will be erected to make the viaduct for this Metro corridor. The average height of the pillars on this corridor will be approximately nine metres," a Metro statement said.

A Metro statement said that the average height of the pillars on this corridor will be approximately 9 metres.

The Badarpur-Faridabad link is an extension of the existing Metro line 6 (Violet Line), which currently runs from Central Secretariat to Badarpur. The line will be extended to Faridabad, an industrial and residential town in Haryana, neighbouring Delhi.

"On this corridor, Delhi Metro will be using specially designed pre-cast U-shaped girders to complete the viaduct in a short time of 20 months. This is for the first time in Delhi Metro's history where a single span of approximately 27 metres in length and weighing about 160 tonnes will be used," a DMRC spokesman said.

According to the Detailed Project Report (DPR), the daily ridership of the Metro corridor is expected to be 2.14 lakh, after commissioning of the corridor for the public.

"The fully elevated corridor will be completed by 2014 and it will have nine Metro stations, connecting Badarpur and YMCA Chowk in Faridabad," the statement said.

The stations are Sarai Khwaja, NHPC Chowk, Mewla Maharajpur, Sector 27-A, Badhkhal Modh, Old Faridabad, Ajraunda, Faridabad New Town and YMCA Chowk.

9 Faridabad Metro Stations:

  1. Sarai Khwaja
  2. NHPC Chowk
  3. Mewla Maharajpur
  4. Sector 27-A
  5. Badhkhal Modh
  6. Old Faridabad
  7. Ajraunda
  8. Faridabad New Town
  9. YMCA Chowk

Soil testing is for Metro or for widening of NH-2 to 6 lane. Widening work of NH-2 has been awarded to reliance and they might be doing it for their design of flyover proposed at NHPC, Batkal and other locations.

Hi All
I have heard that Gurgaon is to be connected to Faridabad by Metro. Is it the same metro via Badarpur>>Central Secretariat>>Gugaon?? Or any other short distance connectivity is planned between these 2 places?? It would be helpful to know if anyone has some details on this.. Thanks

shorter distance connectivity or direct connectivity is unlikely for next few years IMO. They are not going to run a metro line in an unpopulated area for 30 kms just to connect 2 points.

Re: Join Hands for Delhi Metro Bye Pass - Sign Online Petition

Postby dheerajjain » Thu Jan 27, 2011 11:12 pm

A new hope has been generated for Faridabad Sectors 75 to 89 future residents with citizens of Faridabad meeting Chief Minister for haryana and DMRC for Metro passing through Bye Pass Road. They are providing very valid and logical reason since land opposite to Bye Pass road contains 24 new sectors and have multi-storeyed huge buildings, it will boast of future population of around 2 lakh middle class people staying in 50,000 flats/floors/villas/independent houses. So, it is beneficial for whole Faridabad and also from Delhi Metro since it will generate income. Also, it will decongest NH 2 and solve traffic nightmares.

I have created an online petition. Please lend your support. We will send this petition to DMRC, Haryana Govt. Authroities etc. I request everyone to sign this petition. This does not require login.

Re: METRO TO Bye Pass Road

I have received phone call and e-mail from people asking about feasibility of this proposal. Like I received this e-mail

DMRC has already started the soil testing based on existing plan. now if they change it to some different route they will have to make another plan and soil testing..not sure if it is really feasible or will just delay the whole matter

Above is a valid point that changing of route may delay Delhi Metro extension to Faridabad as some initial work has already started. I will counter this argument by 2 reasons below:

1. DMRC has in RTI reply in middle of last year had told that route to Faridabad through NH 2 is not financially viable to them as it will not generate enough passengers. But, if you look at Sectors 75 - 89, situation is dramatically different. Here you find multiple towers of 18 floors coming up in every area. Who are the buyers here? Mostly middle class people which will generate revenue for DMRC.

2. Regarding delay, route through NH 2 is much more delay prone as NHAI has already planned multiple flyovers on lines of NH 8. Consider this, parallel construction of flyovers and Metro going through center of NH 2 can put both projects in trouble. DMRC has already raised a big concern about this to Haryana Govt. Whereas, if Metro passes through bye pass road, there is no such trouble and both projects of NHAI and DMRC can run independently.

So, I request everyone to sign online petition (no user name/password required)
